Shelton High’s boys lacrosse team was beaten 16-0 by visiting Xavier of Middletown on Monday night.

The Gaels dropped to 0-3 in a tough stretch of games to begin the season, which features some of the best competition they likely will face this spring.

Goaltenders Tim Schiffer and Craig Melvin split playing time and combined for nine saves in defeat.

The Gaels worked hard to try to break up the shutout but several shots were denied, or just missed the net, and one hit the post.

Shelton Coach Matt Read is confident there are some bright spots ahead for his young squad this season.
