The Shelton girls lacrosse team needed a dramatic ending to secure their first win of the season for head coach Paul Leonard, coming back and then holding on against a surprising Law team by a 14-12 final margin.
The Gaelettes were threatening to run away with it early on holding a 4-1 advantage before Law battled back to outscore Shelton 6-2 in the final 12 minutes of the first half with Zoe Taylor scoring the go ahead goal with just two seconds left on the clock.
Law opened up a 10-7 lead with 14 minutes to play before the Gaelettes shifted gears. Nicole Roberts scored goals on back-to-back possessions to give Shelton the momentum and the Gaelettes went on to score six unanswered goals to take a 13-10 advantage with 5:12 remaining.
Six different players scored as Shelton outscored Law 7-2 over the final 14 minutes of the game including insurance goals from Gina Orazietti, Morgan Zayas and Michaela Garcia. The game would not have gone in the win column without the game saving efforts of Amanda Bolduc in goal as she made two saves at the one minute mark to keep Law from getting any closer.
Roberts led the way with four goals with Kayla Pjatak, Jillian Ortoli and Zayas adding two goals each. Shelton is 1-2 on the season and is back in action next week on Tuesday at North Haven,Thursday at home to Mercy and at Sheehan on Saturday.
