The Shelton High School robotics team, the Gaelhawks, has qualified for the FIRST Robotics Competition World Championship in St. Louis from April 22 to 25.
The Gaelhawks, with its robot Talon XVI, will compete in the 2015 “Recycle Rush!” challenge with over 600 teams from across the globe.
This year’s SHS team qualified with New England District wins at competitions in Waterbury, Hartford, and Dartmouth, Mass. The team was also selected as the Hartford Chairman’s Award winning program.

The team — officially called Team 230, the Galehawks — is scheduled to compete on the Curie Division field in Missouri.
The competition begins at 8:30 a.m. daily. Fans can watch the live webcast at the following link:
Thursday, April 23: Matches No. 5, 16, 36, 47 and 55.
Friday, April 24: Matches No. 66, 77, 98, 109 and 116.
Saturday, April 25: To be determined.

Advancing science and technology
The Shelton High School robotics team is in its 17th year of operation and continues to promote the mission of “advancing the excitement of science and technology in our school and community.”
The team is supported by the Shelton Board of Education, UTC Sikorsky, OEM Controls, Boeing, ATT Connecticut, Intuitive Surgical, Landmark Transportation, IEEE, Cooper Surgical, and Ametek/Hayden Kirk.

Those wishing to donate to the team to help offset the transportation and robot construction costs are asked to participate in the New Haven Community Foundation Great Give 2015 on May 5 and 6.
