ROADWORK ALERT: Bridgeport Ave. guardrail replacement work continues

State transportation crews were out replacing guardrails on lower Bridgeport Avenue on Wednesday, completing work from Huntington Street/Huntington Road to just south of the Shelton Square Shopping Center/Stop & Shop area.

The work led to some minor traffic delays during the day, with Department of Transportation (DOT) crew members directing traffic and briefly closing lanes at times.

The DOT work will continue on Thursday, likely beginning near the Burger King/Stop & Shop gas station entrance and heading north during the course of the day.

This means the work Thursday will take place in a more congested part of Bridgeport Avenue, with many offices and retail establishments in that vicinity.

Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton is State Road 714 (the old Route 8), so the state has the responsibility for maintenance.
