State transportation crews have been installing new guardrails along lower Bridgeport Avenue, from the Stop & Shop gas station entrance to the Trumbull border. (April 23 photos by Brad Durrell)

Workers are replacing cable guardrails with more traditional metal guardrails. The guardrails run along a brook and wetlands in certain locations on the main thoroughfare.

The work has led to some minor traffic delays, with DOT crew members directing traffic and briefly closing lanes at times.

Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton is State Road 714 (the old Route 8), so the state is responsible for maintaining it.
