Congressman Jim Himes, who represents most of Shelton, will host a discussion with constituents on the ongoing international negotiations to prevent Iran from achieving a nuclear weapon.
The town hall meeting will take place Saturday, April 25 from 1:45-3 p.m. at Norwalk Community College East Campus (GenRe Forum), 188 Richards Ave., Norwalk. It is open to the public.
Congress is currently debating legislation regarding its oversight and review role for a potential final agreement this summer.
A tentative framework for a deal was reached in early April, but specifics need to be worked out during ongoing negotiations between Iran and the “P5+1” group of nations — the United States, China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom (the five permanent members of the United Nations), plus Germany and the European Union.
The newest deadline to finalize an agreement is July 1, with officials in the United States and Iran at times offering conflicting views of the agreed-upon framework.
Anyone with questions regarding the town meeting or wanting to RSVP should call Himes’ Bridgeport office at 866-453-0028.
Shelton has two congressional districts
Himes, a Democrat, represents the Fourth Congressional District, which includes most of Fairfield County. He is in his fourth term and lives in Greenwich.
A small part of Shelton is in the Third Congressional District, represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro of New Haven. DeLauro has served in Congress since 1991.
