Collections for Spooner House called a success

Valley residents came out to help support the Spooner House this month.

The Dust Off Cruise on April 12 supported by Heav’nly Donuts in Derby, which netted 2,511 food items, and the 13th annual Valley Has a Heart Spooner House food collection held on April 18 were called successful.

The Spooner House came close to its goal at the food drive. The organization — which helps feed those in need in the Valley — collected almost $5,000, which was its goal.

The amount of cash collected was about $4,550. There was about 2,760 items of food donated.

The Valley Has a Heart food drive was at the Stop & Shop locations in Shelton, Ansonia and Seymour.

Volunteers from Shelton were at the Shelton and Ansonia drives. The volunteers included members of the Shelton High School National Honor Society, representatives of the Shelton Youth Service Bureau’s Youth2Youth program, a number of regular Spooner House volunteers.
