Volunteers from Perkin Elmer will work on a house in Shelton as part of the 28th annual HomeFront Day on Saturday, May 2. The volunteers will be active at the Hamilton Drive home of Grace Hulford.
Throughout Connecticut and Westchester County, N.Y., up to 2,500 people will volunteer at 70 homes and a community center for low-income families.
HomeFront Day volunteers come from all walks of life, straddling a wide spectrum of repair skills, but united by a desire to give back at no cost to the recipients.
Corporate, faith-based and civic groups
More than 60 corporate, faith-based and civic groups are taking part, backed by the financial support of foundations and individuals, as well as product donations from building suppliers and pro bono services from building trade professionals.
Among those being helped are older adults living only on Social Security checks, single-parent households, veterans, disabled homeowners, and families in transitional crisis due to illness and employment challenges.
