The Shelton boys lacrosse team seemed to have turned the corner after starting out the season at 0-4. The Gaels put together a three game win streak before running into trouble last week dropping a pair of games.
On Friday at Edward Finn Stadium the skid reached three losses in a row as the Gaels came up on the short end of a 12-4 final to Guilford. It was the lighting quick strikes of the Indians that had the Gaels on their heels.
Guilford used their speed coupled with a pin point passing game to score early and often building a 4-0 lead six minutes into the game. Shelton began to make a game of it but chased that deficit for the remainder of the contest.
Kyle McGinnis put the Gaels on the board as time was running out on the first period at the 1:03 mark when he fired a ground ball shot that eluded the Guilford defense.
Shelton was still very much in the game as the Gaels defense led by Austin Azzarito, Jake Camerino and Tom Lindberg began to lend goal keeper Tim Schiffer a little more support in between the pipes.
Keith Prior put the Gaels second goal in the net during the second period but Shelton trailed 7-2 at the halftime break. Prior again found the net on an assist from Carlos Maldanaldo in the third period as Shelton was still very much in the game trailing 8-3 heading into the final period.
Prior recorded the hat trick scoring his third goal at the fourth period but the game was already in hand as the Indians put it away with four more tallies for the 12-4 final margin.
Shelton is back in action next week trying to get back in the win column and keep their post season hopes alive when they visit Lyman Hall on Tuesday. Shelton will host Law on Thursday and concluded the busy week on Saturday at Wilbur Cross.
