The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) invites you to plan your herb and tea garden now with the help of Jim Calkins, executive chef/owner of Seasonal Catering, on Tuesday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the Kellogg Environmental Center, 500 Hawthorne Ave., Derby.
Calkins is an experienced chef working with local flavors and foods to create seasonal offerings. He will share his knowledge of flavor combinations and help people plan their herb and plant selections.
This is the first of a two-part series that will include a follow-up this fall on harvesting and drying.
Seasonal Catering, located on Elizabeth Street Derby, is a gluten-free, nut-free café that offers vegetarian and vegan selections and partners with local Connecticut farms and businesses to source its products. The café also works to utilize locally grown products in its catering and café menu as well as offering these products for sale through a gift store.
