Boys volleyball: Gaels punch ticket to SCC final

The Shelton High boys volleyball team opened SCC tournament play with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-16) sweep over Daniel Hand of Madison at Murray Gymnasium.

Erik Kocur led the Gaels (17-2) with six aces, eight digs and nine kills, while Grant Fevrier added four digs and six kills and T.J. Nicholas one ace, one dig and six kills.

Caleb Bridge led the Tigers with five digs and one ace, while Ben Habernon added one dig, one kill and two blocks. Alex Cinicola notched two digs and six kills.

Shelton, the top seed, will host No. 2 seed Xavier High of Middletown in the SCC final on Friday at 6 p.m. at Murray Gymnasium. The Falcons swept third-seeded Cheshire High, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-20).
