LETTER: Thanks to Shelton’s White Hills Fire for father’s honor

FI-Letter-to-the-Editor

To the Editor:

On behalf of my family, I would like to thank the White Hills Volunteer Fire Dept. No. 5 for their support and professional way they honored my dad, George S. Payne Jr., during his recent passing.

We have had numerous compliments from people who attended his wake about the honor guard this department provided for my dad, who was a veteran member.

Growing up in White Hills, it was rewarding to see how this department honored him.
At the repass, officers presented us with a medal commending him for his years of service. I personally will cherish this medal knowing what it would mean to my dad.

People of Shelton should know how lucky they are to have an all-volunteer fire department keeping their families safe. They are volunteers but do their job protecting us as professional as paid departments in most parts of Fairfield County.

I am proud to say I grew up in White Hills and, as the city grows, it is nice to know that White Hills remembers their old timers in the fire department.

Thank you again. My heart will always be in the hills.

Sheryl Payne Taylor
