Boy Scout from Shelton earns Eagle rank

Matthew Tarini is the Shelton Scout who earned Eagle Scout rank.

Matthew Tarini, son of Timothy and Laura Tarini, was awarded the rank of Eagle at his Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony.

Matthew’s Scouting career began in the first grade as a Tiger Cub in Den 7, Pack 27 of Elizabeth Shelton School.

He went on to earn the Super 20, Arrow of Light and crossed over as a Boy Scout into Troop 27

More than 31 merit badges

Matthew was assistant patrol leader, troop guide and most recently troop webmaster. He has completed 31 merit badges, and counting.

Matthew has attended the 2010 Boy Scout National Jamboree in Virginia, Florida Sea Base and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and is looking forward to returning to Philmont in 2016.

He has taken part in summer camps, winter camps, camporees, Klondikes, skiing, rock climbing, white water rafting, small boat sailing, swimming, Block Island, Gettysburg, and other activities that scouting and Troop 27 have to offer.

Landscaping at rec center

Matthew’s Eagle Scout project was to remove overgrown landscaping, clean up the planting beds, plant new trees, shrubs, and perennials, reconstruct a patio paver walkway, construct a concrete paver walkway and restain a handicap access ramp at the White Hills Recreation Center.

His project increased the accessibility and aesthetics of the recreation center, which is enjoyed by many residents of Shelton.

Honors student at SHS

Matthew is a senior at Shelton High School. He participated in freshman football and recently finished his fourth year of lacrosse.

He is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, CAPT Scholar and has maintained high honors throughout his high school career.

Matthew will be attending Western New England University in Springfield, Mass., pursuing a degree in civil engineering.
