Shelton and Milford split a Zone II American Legion doubleheader in Shelton on Wednesday night.

Post 196 won the first game, 4-1, before Shelton bounced back with a 6-0 win in game two.

Matt Coppola pitched a complete-game shutout for Post 16 in its victory, scattering five hits, to help Shelton improve to 9-5.

Matt Alicki took the loss on the mound for Milford (9-10).

Coppola drove in the only run he needed in the top of the first, plating Jake Camp, who led off with a double to deep center field, with an infield single.

Post 16 added a run in the third on Hudson Boles sacrifice fly allowed Mike Cowell, who reached on a three-base error. Boles was robbed of a base hit on the play by Milford center fielder Tyler Kasuba — who made a sprawling grab in the right-center field gap.

In the fifth, Paul Salley walked and scored on a throwing error, while Jordan Urbani added an RBI single.

Shelton closed out its scoring in the top of the seventh.

Cowell and Marc Zoppi (2-for-3) were hit by pitches, sandwiched around a single to center from Hudson Boles. Urbani made it 5-0 with a run-scoring groundout, before Mark Polkowski’s grounder to shortstop was misplayed into a error that allowed Boles to score.

Mike Bevino had two hits for Milford.

Shelton won the first game of the series, 4-3, on Tuesday. Urbani picked up the victory on the mound, outdueling Milford’s Evan Carolla. Boles recorded the final out to notch the save.

Post 16 returns to action with a road game at DeMayo Field against North Haven (2-11). Milford hosts Hamden Post 88 (10-7) on July 4 at 10 a.m. at Foran High.
