A 46-year-old Shelton man’s death Friday morning has launched a combined investigation with the city and state police departments.
On Aug. 14, at approximately 6:45 a.m., police officers from the Shelton Police Department responded to 62 Howe Avenue for a reported untimely death.
Upon arrival, Shelton police officers located the male — later identified as Richard Briereheck — dead on the second floor of the residence. Detectives from the Shelton Police Department were notified, responded to the scene, and initiated an investigation.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Shelton Police Department requested the assistance of the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Squad. State Police detectives from Central District Major Crime (CDMC) responded to Shelton, and assisted with the investigation.
At approximately 2 p.m., at the request of the Ansonia/Milford Judicial District State’s Attorney’s Office, detectives from CDMC assumed the investigation.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) also responded to the scene and are assisting in the investigation. The OCME will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine cause and manner of death, police said.
