Shelton High students earn AP Scholar Awards

Shelton-ShsTileLogo2Dr. Beth A. Smith, headmaster of Shelton High School, has announced that 73 students have earned AP Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams.

The College Board’s AP program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school.

In the 2014-15 school year, 337 Shelton High School students took 556 examinations as part of the College Board Advanced Placement program.

The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP exams.

 

National AP Scholar

Shelton High Class of 2015 graduate, Wesley Kocurek qualified as a National AP Scholar by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a five point scale on all AP exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

 

Scholars with Distinction

Twenty-one students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams:  Johnna Bakalar, Sara Brown, Gina Ciambriello, Nikko Cleri, Lorenzo Dahdal, Kaylee DeFelice, Joshua Fedorko, Erik Kocur, Wesley Kocurek, Austin Kothary, Andrew Krzywosz, Christopher Lipscomb, Kai-Xan McDonald, Dakota McDonough, Christopher Pereira, Veronica Pleasant, Keyur Shah, Scott Shnipes, Carolyn Taylor, Max, Wang and Regina Weissenberg.

 

Scholars with Honor

Fifteen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

These students are Ashley Chan, Michael Cowell, Christopher Dicairano, Jennifer Gulick, Sarah Henckel, James Hunter, Henry Jiang, Teajun Kim, John Litts, Veina Pillai, Anthony Sablone, Brianna Sasson, Tal Shashoua, Philip Smolitsky, and Richard Turiano.

 

AP Scholars

Thirty-seven students were awarded an AP Scholar award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on three or more of these exams.

AP Scholars include Chase Arsenault, Laurel Bailey, Allison Brown, Marta Brzostowska, Victoria Conlin, Ryan Corbett, Tyler Cordes, Caroline Cummings, Freskid Dinaj, Taylor Doolan, Jillian Engeldrum, Alexander Erconlani, Casey Ford, Emily Juliano, Alexandra Koumbaros, Benjamin LaBaw, Elizabeth Lewis, Virginia Lewis, Michael Lynders, Alexander Main, Gillian Malafronte, Dominika Marczak, Kyle McGinnis, Brian Messemer, Joseph Niski, Peter Peng, Braeden Sagehorn, Marie Sakr, Alison Scalenghe, William Simics, Caroline Steadham, Leanne Varga, Alex Walsh, Billings White, Alex Widomski, Taylor Wright, and Skye Zalenski.
