Aviation pioneer honored at special ceremony

The Trumbull Historical Society has announced that a permanent memorial is being erected at Abraham Nichols Park on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 1 p.m., in honor of long-time town resident, Igor Sikorsky.

The memorial in Nichols Park, adjacent to the Historical Society Museum at 1856 Huntington Turnpike, is a joint endeavor of the Historical Society and the town, with the support of the Sikorsky Foundation and the Sikorsky Historical Archives.

The event will feature an exhibit in the museum on the many accomplishments of Igor Sikorsky (1889-1972), who invented the modern helicopter and developed other aviation breakthroughs.
