Richard Hammond is accused of exposing his genitals to a jogger in Shelton.

A Stratford man was under arrest after police say he exposed himself on a jogging trail in Shelton.

On Saturday, Shelton police officers arrested Richard Hammond, 52, charging him with second-degree breach of peace and public indecency.

The arrest stems from a complaint police received on May 10. Reports said a jogger approached a patrol officer and stated that he was jogging on the Shelton trails in the area of Shelton Avenue.

At that time, he allegedly saw a man on the trail with no pants on and his genitals exposed. The jogger stated the man gestured at him then ran off into the woods. Patrol officers located Hammond in the trails and after detectives investigated the incident it was determined he was the man the jogger saw with no pants.

Hammond was released and scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Oct. 19.

Hammond is a registered sex offender and has been since 1998, police said.
