First of all, I’d like to acknowledge Mayor Lauretti for bringing the city of Shelton to where it is today during his lengthy term in office — Shelton is a jewel in the Valley and in the state – and I am very happy to be living here for over 40 years.
However, as a concerned taxpayer and grandparent, getting involved with the city and BOA/BOE budget processes these past few years has been a real eye opener. I’ve learned a lot…mostly that there is so much more that can be done without raising taxes that will enhance our city and bring it even further. But, without change in the current line up of city government players, these enhancements won’t happen. In my opinion, it’s time for a change…many may respond with “why change?” because they choose to see only the low taxes! Tunnel vision, old school thinking…we deserve more…and more can happen without raising taxes.
Unfortunately, the “smoke & mirrors” politics and lack of transparency in city government brings much frustration to those of us who care about the future of our (grand)children and our wonderful city of Shelton. Again, in my opinion, it’s time for a change…NOT for the “sake of change,” as some may say, but for our future personal and economic growth – as taxpayers, (grand)children, for Shelton and the entire Valley.
I encourage all Shelton voters to think beyond LOW taxes and the year after year surpluses (which, some say, may be a sign of fiscal mismanagement) – we get what we pay for! We deserve more. Think back to the struggles and rude behavior during the FDK (full day kindergarten) process (remember “the cackling hens” & other rude comments?) and other BOE/BOA budget hearings where a high school student with special needs spoke, was treated with disrespect and rudely dismissed by the BOA president, Mr. Anglace? After public outcry, he later offered a public apology.
Unacceptable people…we deserve more.
Michele B Bialek and the other fresh faces running for mayor and the BOA are offering their clear visions, experience, time and talents to our city government on Nov. 3. We deserve more…please vote and give them a chance.
