To the Editor:
I just finished reading the Shelton Voters Network guideline for the 2015 Municipal election. This dedicated organization is affiliated with the League of Woman’s Voter group which is nonpartisan. Shelton is very fortunate to have an organization like this in our town and the mission of the group is to educate, engage, and advocate. All democracies work best with an informed and educated population.
Having said that, I must say I am very dismayed and disappointed that some of the Candidates in this year’s municipal election chose not to respond to the League’s survey, which was meant to inform and educate voters on the current slate of Candidates. In fact only four candidates of the Republican Party answered the questions in this survey, and they were of the eight Republicans running for the Board of Education.
In my opinion, if as a Candidate one can’t see fit to let voters know who they are, what they stand for, or what they have done, then they don’t deserve my vote. I take my right to vote very seriously, and in doing so always try to educate myself on the Candidates and issues.
In full disclosure yes I am a Candidate, and I certainly hope that when November 3rd is here that voters will certainly give this lack of participation their serious consideration when they are filling in that bubble.
