Obituary: David Wentz, age 82, of Shelton

David Wentz, age 82, of Shelton, entered into rest on Monday, October 26, 2015, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. He is the beloved husband of 56 years of May Lafor (Schmersal) Wentz.

David was born in Washington, DC on February 24, 1933, son of the late George M. and Jane E. (Robinson) Wentz, and lived in Shelton for 45 years.

He served his country with the U.S. Army, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a Master’s degree from Northeastern University. He was employed as an Industrial Engineer and Quality Control Manager for Norden Systems in Norwalk until his retirement.

David was a longtime member of the Huntington United Methodist Church, and he was involved in running the Shelton Babe Ruth Baseball League for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, playing bridge with family and friends, and fishing on the Long Island Sound.

He is the beloved father of Caroline Gerwien and her husband Leonard, David Wentz and his wife Kimberly, and Mark Wentz. He also leaves six cherished grandchildren, Ashley Moscaritolo and her husband Gregg, Matthew Gerwien and his wife Colleen, Amanda Gerwien, Christopher Wentz, Katelyn Wentz, and Catherine Wentz, two great grandchildren, Eddy and Allison, and his brother, George Robinson Wentz and his wife Flonell.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Wentz.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday from 4 to 7 PM. On Saturday his procession will depart the funeral home at 10:30 AM for a Funeral Service at the Huntington United Methodist Church at 11 AM.
