The New Canaan Rams host the Trumbull Eagles in this week’s HAN Network FCIAC Football Game of the Week. The 7 p.m. game between the 6-0 Rams and the 5-1 Eagles will help further the division rivals’ hopes of earning a berth in the FCIAC Championship game.

Coach Lou Marinelli’s Rams are led by quarterback Michael Collins, who has thrown for 1,691 yards and 32 touchdowns. Collins’ top receivers are Kyle Smith (20 catches for 486 yards and 9 TDs), Andrew Defranco (18 catches, 314 yards, 7 TDs) and Peter Swindell (15 catches, 333 yards and 8 TDs).
Highlights from New Canaan vs. Greenwich on HAN:
Mike Cognetta and Graham Braden are the top two ground gainers.
Swindell has kicked four field goals this season; he set the state career record last weekend.
New Canaan’s defense, which has allowed 10 points per game with 10 sacks and 11 interceptions, is bolstered by Thomas Williams, Cognetta and David Strupp.
The Rams are averaging 306 yards per game passing and 109 on the ground. They have scored 38 points per game in division contests.
Trumbull’s only loss has come at the hands of Trinity Catholic.
Coach Bob Maffei’s Eagles are averaging 34 points per game in the division and have given up 16 per.
Johnny McElroy has thrown for 11 touchdowns and nearly 200 yards per game.
Markeese Woods has scored 10 touchdowns, seven rushing.
Danny Hoffmann has caught 35 passes good for 444 yards and four scores.
Dustin Siqueria, Pater Raverta Woods have each caught two scoring passes.
Joe Turner, Corey Haslam, Ryan Kelly, Joey Ryan, Harrison Klas, Stephen Nagy and Zach Heche are defensive standouts.
