UPDATE: Mother, daughter recovering after being hit by car

Mother and daughter struck Tuesday evening

A mother and daughter are recovering after being hit by a car Tuesday evening in downtown Shelton.

The Shelton mother, 46 years old, and the daughter, 10 years old, were both transported to the hospital  after being struck around 5 p.m. in the area of Coram Avenue and Hill Street. Police said Wednesday the young girl was held overnight in the hospital but her status was reported as stable. The mother was released from the hospital.

Officers have spoken to the female driver of the car, who is 66 years old and from Seymour. The accident is still under investigation.
