The Shelton High girls basketball team improved to 2-0 by notching a 41-30 SCC interdivision victory over West Haven High at Murray Gymnasium on Thursday night.
Casey O’Connor scored a game-high 18 points for the Gaelettes, who opened the game on an 11-2 run and never looked back.
Sarah Skoronski added seven points and Colleen Flood and Erin Adler chipped in with five points apiece. Kaitlynn Cooke led the Westies (0-1) with nine points and Marianna Kalander had seven markers.
Cooke banked a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left in the first half to get West Haven to within five points at 17-12. But, Shelton opened the second half with a 10-3 burst to push its lead to 27-15 with 4:07 remaining in the third quarter.
Adler capped the run with a 3-pointer from the wing and the closest the Westies got the rest of the way was six points on Cooke’s basket with 7:22 left to play.
Shelton returns to action tomorrow night when it travels to New Haven to face Career Magnet (0-1). West Haven hosts East Haven on Monday night at 7.
