Connecticut Sports Talk, Dec. 23

The final Nutmeg Sports before Christmas brings Al Carbone, commissioner of the Southern Connecticut Conference, to the studio. Mike Suppe steps in for both Donald Eng and Dave Stewart to join Rob Adams.

First up is the SCC’s move to a three-division alignment in football. Al breaks down the teams and why the change makes sense for the conference. The guys discuss if it would work for the FCIAC, and how the two conferences could work together.

After the break, they discuss the change from the CIAC that allow for more teams to participate in certain state tournaments, thus eliminating byes. The downside to this is the possibility of more potential large margins of victory, as sub-.500 teams enter to face top teams in the state. Is it entirely a good or bad thing?

Hockey comes up next. The SCC and the FCIAC are blessed with some of the best hockey in the state, and Rob asks about girls hockey as well. Basketball also get reviewed, as well as the overall state of the state.

Al will be a frequent guest on Nutmeg Sports, allowing the SCC to really be heard. With that, all of us at Nutmeg Sports, and the HAN Network, with you a Merry Christmas. Regular programming returns next Monday with Coffee Break at 11 am.
