The Shelton High School Drama Club will present its annual production of Adaptations this weekend. Adaptations is a unique theatrical performance in which each grade level presents its own thirty-minute musical skit. Club advisor, Joe Sedlock, is looking forward to another year of exciting performances from Shelton’s talented teens.
“Once again, we have the good fortune of having returning directors working with every class,” says Sedlock. “Our directors are enthusiastic and experienced, and we are thrilled to see so many of them return year after year to work with our great kids.”
This year, Adaptations will feature a variety of songs from various musicals and movie including Annie, The Wedding Singer, Legally Blonde, and Aladdin. Because so many students are involved in the production, the performance has a large directing team comprised of teachers, parents, and performers from the community. Justin Zenchuk is one of the directors for the junior class and has been on the Adaptations directing team for several years.
“It’s always great to return to SHS for Adaptations every year. I love the chance to combine forces with actors, parents, and teachers. I think it really gives the kids a unique experience.”
Junior, Melanie Byron, is a featured performer this year and is very excited to join her friends for another year of Adaptations.
“I’ve been an active member of the Drama Club since my freshman year and it feels like a dream to be featured again this year. It’s always fun to put together a performance with my friends and watch what all the other grades have been working on.”
Stephen Casinelli is one of the featured performers in the senior class and echoes Byron’s enthusiasm. “I can’t believe this is my last year of Adaptations. I’ve been lucky to work with the same group of friends and directors every year. This is the first time I’ve gotten such a big feature and I’m excited to be with my friends doing what I love most.”
Adaptations has been a positive experience for Shelton High School students for nearly two decades. Over one hundred students will appear in Adaptations this weekend. Sedlock explains, “It’s a great way to get students involved in a fun activity. We love the chance to provide kids with the chance to perform for a big audience, so we hope to see everyone there.”
Adaptations will take place Friday, Jan. 15th and Saturday, Jan. 16th at 7:00 PM in the Shelton High School Auditorium. The ticket price is $10.00, and tickets can be purchased at the door. Follow the SHS Drama Club on Twitter @SHSPerforms.
