Oscar nominations and wedding do’s and don’ts

HAN Arts & Leisure with Sally Sanders, Steve Coulter and the “Reel Dad,” Mark Schumann, take a look at movies, the arts and other events going on in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Westchester County, New York — and the surrounding area.

Sally and Steve break down the Oscar nominations just released this morning.

Our movie experts predict the winners, talk about the snubs and give you background on each of the movies up for awards this year. There are few categories that disappointed, some surprised and Steve and Sally predict a few dark horses that could take the awards this year.

In the adapted screenplay category Sally thinks that The Big Short is likely to take it, though Carol could sneak in. Steve thinks Room might take this category.

In the director’s category could be interesting. The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu could be the third director to win back to back Oscars — something that hasn’t happened 1949 and 1950. But the dark horse could be The Big Short’s Adam McKay.

Etiquette expert Catherine Michaels joins Steve and Sally to discuss weddings. Should you ask parents’ permission before proposing? What about step parents?

There are some good rules to keep in mind when it comes to sending your save-the-dates.

Catherine also has some bachelor party tips and a to-do list for a best man. It’s longer than you think.
