Hockey: Mancini propels SWS past Trinity Catholic

Evan Mancini scored four goals and added an assist in leading the Staples-Weston-Shelton Co-op boys ice hockey team to an 11-0 win over Trinity Catholic of Stamford on Saturday night at the Milford Ice Pavilion.

Mancini of Shelton scored once in the first period, as the Wreckers took a 3-0 lead against a Crusaders team that skated with only nine players and lost for the ninth time in 10 games.

Mancini scored three straight goals in the second period for SWS (6-2), which expanded its lead to 9-0.

Wreckers’ goalie Zack Bloom made 20 saves to earn the shutout.

Jesse Greenspun picked up a pair of goals while Ryan Johnson and R.J. Gupta, both of Shelton, had a goal and two assists.

It was the second win in eight days for SWS over Trinity Catholic. The Wreckers defeated the Crusaders, 6-3, on Jan. 9.
