Two of the surprise boys basketball teams in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference so far this season meet on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in a game broadcast live on the HAN Network or in the video player below:
Long-time rivals Wilton and Ridgefield both go into Tuesday night’s contest at the Zeoli Field House with designs on making the FCIAC playoffs. Wilton enters the game with a 6-3 overall record and a 3-2 mark in the conference, while Ridgefield is 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
In seniors Matt Saporito (6’5″), Chase Levesque (6’3″) and Matthew Bartolucci (6’5″), Ridgefield has one of the FCIAC’s most imposing frontcourts. Another plus has been the play of 6’6″ junior Nick Laudati, who scored 15 points and emphatically rejected several shots in the win over Warde, inspring chants of “Porzingis” from the home fans, in reference to the shot-blocking exploits of New York Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis.
After graduating nearly all of its leading players from last year’s team, Wilton was thought to be headed for a rebuilding season this winter. But the Warriors have looked more like a playoff team, winning six of their first seven games. Wilton did cool off last week, losing to both Warde (84-78 in overtime) and Ludlowe, 59-52.
The Warriors’ have also gotten strong contributions from junior guards Matt Kronenberg, Drew Connolly and Sean Breslin, as well as 6’4″ senior forward James Maloney, who returned to the team after not playing high school basketball the past two seasons. Maloney scored a career-high 20 points and snagged 13 rebounds in a recent win over St. Joseph.

Next up is a top-ranked wrestling dual on Wednesday when Danbury locks horns with Fairfield Warde. We’ll have Darien vs. New Canaan girls hockey on Friday. When the Rams and Blue Wave met earlier this season, it took overtime to decide a winner. Check out the complete broadcast schedule here.
