The Shelton Farmers’ Market invites the community to the monthly winter market on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9 am – 1 pm at the Shelton Farmers’ Market building, located at 100 Canal Street. This market will offer the community an opportunity to share in the abundance of local agricultural products still available in the winter while talking to the farmers who grow your food. What makes the Shelton Farmers’ Market unique is that it is held in the only city-owned, heated farmers’ market building in the state.
GROW Shelton/Liquid Lunch along with Joe Ballaro of Bar 140, and Seasonal Sweets and Catering, all local Farm to Table establishments, will be offering fresh made, locally grown food for market shoppers. Customers will find bacon egg and cheese sandwiches and other seasonal treats from Seasonal Sweets, smoked pork shoulder and smoked beef brisket, along with loaded baked potatoes (meats and veggies grown by Stone Gardens Farm of Shelton). Live music will be provided by Joe Ballaro, owner of Bar 140, and Fred Monahan, owner of Stone Gardens Farm, and friends.
The Winter markets will run the first Saturday’s of February, March, and April, and then the regular market will open back up on a weekly schedule starting the beginning of May. This market is classified as a “producer-only” market, meaning that vendors for the market are the producers of the products they are selling.
In addition to accepting cash and credit cards, the market also accepts SNAP and WIC benefits. Community members are encouraged to join the Shelton CT Farmers’ Market Association for an annual membership fee of $20 to show support for the producer-only market.
