Wrestling: Gaels win three SCC titles, place fourth

Shelton High’s Chandler Duhaime, Nico Distasio and Dan Persson won individual titles and coach Bill Maloney’s Shelton High wrestling team placed fifth at the Southern Connecticut Conference Championships at Wilbur Cross High in New Haven on Saturday.

Foran High (141) won the team title, followed by defending champion Xavier-Middletown (130), Daniel Hand-Madison (129.5) and Shelton (102.5).

Duhaime won the 113-pound title over Branford’s Noah Pantani.

Distasio was the 120-pound champion with a win over Willie Gambardella from Branford.

Persson was first at 182 pounds with a win over Codey Borchert from East Haven.

Steven Reyes took second at 106 pounds.

Ray Weiner won his consolation final at 195 pounds over Daniel Hand’s Van Docker.

Nick Monaco was fourth at 160 pounds.
