The Staples-Weston-Shelton (SWS) boys hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to Trumbull High at The Rinks at Shelton on Saturday night.
Ryan Johnson scored a pair of first period goals as SWS took a 1-0 lead and came back to even the score following a pair of Trumbull tallies. Christopher Cyr assisted the first goal, which came only 50 seconds after the opening faceoff.
The Eagles erupted in the second period with four goals to turn a 2-2 tie into a commanding 6-2 advantage.
Brady Jensen, Matt Mocker, Martin Bimbach and Jaco Liebowitz all lit the lamp in the middle stanza. Jensen and Mocker scored only 49 seconds apart early in the period, and Trumbull’s other two middle period tallies came just 32 seconds apart in the final minute before the horn.
Dustin Maher and Mocker scored goals in the opening period.
Trumbull goaltender Will Guttman made 42 saves and SWS goalie Zachary Bloom stopped 22 shots.
