The Shelton High girls basketball team will host New Britain High on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class LL state tournament.

The 16th-seeded Gaelettes, at 13-8 overall, are coming off of a first-round loss to Sheehan High in the Southern Connecticut Conference tournament last week.

New Britain, seeded No. 17, finished the regular season at 13-7. The Golden Hurricanes are led by 6-foot-2 freshman Brianna Clark, guard Kelsey Hernandez and 6-foot-0 forward Deja Santana.

Junior Sarah Skoronski and Casey O’Connor lead the charge for the Gaelettes, who last qualified for the Class LL state tournament back in 2013.

The winner of the Shelton/New Britain game will face either top-seeded Mercy High of Middletown (19-1) or No. 32 seed Hall of West Hartford in the second round on March 3.
