Shelton edges Cheshire

The Shelton High wrestling team returned home from Cheshire High with a 40-39 victory on Wednesday.
Coach Bill Maloney’s Gaels broke a 39-39 deadlock be the fifth criteria, winning on most falls, most forfeits awarded and defaults by a 6-5 margin.
Shelton is 2-0 and Cheshire 0-2 in the SCC.
Kyle McGinnis won by 2:54 fall at 120 pounds to tie the match at 6 before Scott Plucienik scored a pin in 1:09 at 126 to give the Gaels the lead.
Cheshire went in front 15-12, but Shelton 145-pounder Zach Hoynoski earned a 7-4 decision to deadlock things.
Nic Pogacsas (3:18) at 152 and Liam Cummings (2:31) at 170 negated a pair of pins by the Rams and the score was 27-27.
Alex Merdinger (220) and Jose Nieves (heavyweight) were awarded forfeits to send the officail to the scorebook to break the stalemate.
