Derby Neck Library Events

On Monday, March 14 at 6 p.m. and again on Wednesday, March 16 at 10:30 a.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. presents Tech Talks featuring “How to Use Power-Point”.  This is a free program offered monthly to inform you how best to use what is new in technology. On Monday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. hosts a power point presentation by Pat Sweeney on “Connecticut Suffragettes” which includes details of how the campaign worked in Ansonia and Derby.  Library benefactor Frances Osborne Kellogg’s participation in the movement will also be highlighted. On Thursday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. hosts Writers’ Round, a free workshop for authors of all genres—fiction, poetry, prose, scripts, history, etc.  Bring your original works to share with others.  For details call 203-734-1492.

On Saturday, March 19 at 2 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. hosts a Teen Video Tournament afternoon, featuring the game “Super Smash Brothers” on our Wii U.  Free refreshments will be served to all attending. On Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. presents a free program on Cupcake Decorating for Spring and Easter. Fancy frosting and decorative, whimsical creations will be provided.  This is a free program for all ages.  For more details, please call 203-734-1492.

On Monday, March 21 at 12:30 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. hosts Women’s Forum a monthly luncheon group that meets to discuss literature, the arts, history and more.  This month’s topic is “Connecticut Suffragettes” featuring the campaigns in Ansonia and Derby ; it  includes details about Frances Osborne Kellogg.  Bring a light lunch while you watch this powerpoint presentation by Pat Sweeney.  We serve free coffee and tea.  For details call 203-734-1492.

On Tuesday, March 22 at 6 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave, is proud to present local author Emery Roth, whose book of vividly- striking photographs depicts the fall of the local brass industry.  Roth covers dying industry up and down the Naugatuck Valley, including the Ansonia Copper and Brass Company.  This is a free program.  Copies of this powerfully illustrated book will be available for purchase.  For details call 203-734-1492.

On Monday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. hosts the Evening Book Club.  This group meets on the last Monday of each month to discuss novellas (short novels) by award-winning authors. We meet in the library’s Reading Room by the fireplace.  An interesting and stimulating conversation is guaranteed.  This month’s book is “Of the Farm” by John Updike.  Copies are available at the library.  For details, please call 203-734-1492.

On Wednesday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m., the Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. is proud to host Andrew L. Cota, Jr. author of the new book “Whitestone.”  This fiction work is about revelations on how to live a meaningful life as discovered by the main character Alex.  Mr. Cots, a retired police chief draws on his life experiences to make his character’s life challenges come alive.  This is a free event.  For details call 203-734-1492.
