On April 7, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls will host soccer phenom and equality advocate Abby Wambach as the keynote speaker at their Annual Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich. The theme of the Luncheon is ‘WOMEN & GIRLS = STRENGTH, RESILIENCE, POWER’.
Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls Annual Luncheon is a celebration of making a difference for women and girls throughout Fairfield County. According to the Fund, when you help a woman, you help her children, extended family, community and society. When you help girls find their voices or become leaders and reach their full potential, you change the world.
This highly anticipated annual event attracts more than 800 friends and supporters from Connecticut and beyond. Their contributions impact thousands of women and girls throughout Fairfield County, they learn about the Fund’s community leadership work, and hear from women who have benefited from their philanthropy. Previous keynote speakers have included the late Dr. Maya Angelou, Geena Davis, Dr. Madeleine Albright, Soledad O’Brien, Cokie Roberts and Gloria Steinem.
“We are honored to host Abby Wambach. She has certainly earned her spot among the world’s best athletes as a game-changer and is making a difference as a world-changer. Her dedication and determination to have everyone treated equally is inspiring and at the heart of the mission of the Fund for Women and Girls,” stated Suzanne B. Peters, Vice President, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls.
Net proceeds from the Luncheon will support the Family Economic Security Program (FESP) at Housatonic Community College. Built on the successful pilot program at Norwalk Community College, FESP will ensure that 400 low-income students, over a four period, persist, graduate and move into family-sustaining employment.
This year’s luncheon is co-chaired by Fund for Women and Girls dedicated volunteers Annie Burleigh from Darien, CT and Maya Tichio from Greenwich, CT. Ticket information for the Annual Luncheon Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls can be found at http://www.TheFWG.org.
