Make-A-Wish Connecticut is proud to partner with the HAN Network for its first airline miles drive in Fairfield County, the HAN Network Wishes In Flight Campaign. This airline mile donation campaign will help grant travel wishes to Connecticut children battling life-threatening medical conditions.
Make-A-Wish Connecticut granted 209 wishes in its 2015 fiscal year, and will grant 240 wishes in its current fiscal year. An astonishing 70% of wishes granted each year require air travel. Make-A-Wish sends the entire immediate family on the wish experience, too — an average of four to five airline tickets per family — so airline mile contributions are among the organization’s greatest needs.
Throughout the month of April, the HAN Network and Make-A-Wish Connecticut will be sharing stories of Wish Kids throughout Fairfield County. These local stories will highlight the struggles the children and families have faced, and the wish experience that changed their lives. The stories will share how a trip to an exotic destination or to meet a favorite celebrity is more than just a trip — it is a life-altering experience for the Wish Kid and the entire family.
As a father of three children with life-threatening medical conditions once said, “Doctors treat your child’s medical condition, but Make-A-Wish treats the hearts and souls of the entire family.”
Make-A-Wish enters the lives of families during a time of darkness and fear, and offers a glimmer of hope, strength and joy. The power of a wish gives a family something to look forward to, and a renewed strength in their fight.
“Airline miles have been our greatest expense in granting the wishes of Connecticut children, and as we work to reach more children each year, the need for airline miles continues to grow,” said Pam Keough, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Connecticut. “Airline miles donated today will help put a smile on the faces of children who right now are facing uncertain and terrifying realities. It will make their dreams come true when they need it most.”
Donating airline miles to the HAN Network Wishes In Flight Campaign is simple. Visit CT.WISH.ORG/HANNetwork and you can make your contribution through the online portal. The year 2016 marks Make-A-Wish Connecticut’s 30th anniversary as a chapter, and in honor of 30 years of wishes granted, HAN Network needs your help in raising 300,000 miles for Connecticut kids.
“With a presence in over 132,000 households, we are extremely excited to be able to work with the HAN Network,” continued Keough. “Their wide range of newspapers, online and broadcasting presence, combined with their philanthropic vision of making a difference in the community, has resulted in a wonderful relationship, and we are proud to call the HAN Network a partner and a friend.”
You can donate unused Delta or United miles directly to the campaign by visiting CT.WISH.ORG/HANNetwork, which will help Connecticut Wish Kids reach their dream destinations. JetBlue, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines also accept airline miles donations that support Make-A-Wish through their own airline mile donation programs, which can be contributed through their individual websites. Directions to these portals are also available on the HAN Network campaign page.
Make-A-Wish Connecticut thanks the HAN Network and the entire HAN Network community for their continued support of its vision to reach every eligible child and make his or her one true wish come true.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Wish-come-true experiences can do wonders by providing a much-needed break from lengthy hospital stays and medical treatments. They give back to a child what a serious medical condition can take away — the chance to simply enjoy being a kid. Wish Kids choose something that will inspire happiness, and allow them to spend precious time with their families. The Connecticut chapter has made more than 2,500 wishes come true since its inception in 1986.
