It’s a battle of undefeated rivals in Darien where the Blue Wave host the New Canaan Rams in boys lacrosse on the HAN Network. You can watch the Saturday, April 30, showdown — with national lacrosse ranking implications — and the pregame show live (or later on demand) in the video players below.
The faceoff at Darien High School is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. You can watch the game in the window below. (Note: Within 20 minutes of the game ending, you can watch it on-demand in the same player window):
At 11:30 a.m., HAN Network broadcast a live pregame show from Darien High School’s stadium with player interviews. You can rewatch it here:
The two rivals not only feature perfect records, they’ve done their damage against some top-flight competition and national rankings. The USA Today Sports Super 25 Expert Rankings put the Rams at No. 3 and Darien at No. 13. While the latest Nike-Lacrosse Magazine national rankings have Darien at No. 6 and New Canaan at No. 21. The more local GameTimeCT-New Haven Register poll has Darien ranked No. 1 in the state and New Canaan at No. 2.
What’s a better way to decide who’s the better than actually playing the game?
Adding to the fun is the longtime rivalry between the two border towns in everything from football to education to scoreboard size to lacrosse.
New Canaan started the season with a trip to Maryland, where it defeated the Loyola-Blakefield Dons 9-8 in overtime. The Rams also have wins over Fairfield Prep 8-7 (click here to watch), Wilton 11-2, and the Brunswick Bruins 13-8.
Darien (8-0), the defending FCIAC and CIAC Class L champion, also opened the year with a huge regional win on the road, rolling over Yorktown, N.Y., 12-3. The Wave has also beaten Niskayuna, N.Y., 20-16, Manhasset, N.Y., 11-8, and Wilton 17-3. You can watch the Manhasset game, covered by HAN, here.
The longtime rivals have named the day “Unite for the Fight,” as part of the Darien lacrosse team’s drive to raise awareness of cystic fibrosis. A member of the Blue Wave roster has lived with cystic fibrosis his entire life.
You can read more about the game in Dave Stewart’s preview here.
Next week, HAN will also have live FCIAC baseball, tennis, softball and more Darien boys lacrosse:
• Baseball: Norwalk at Staples, Monday, May 2, 4 p.m.
• Boys tennis: Norwalk at Fairfield Ludlowe, Tuesday, May 3, 4 p.m.
• Softball: St. Joseph at Ridgefield, Wednesday, May 4, 4 p.m.
• Boys lacrosse: St. Anthony’s (N.Y.) at Darien, Thursday, May 5, 4 p.m.

The HAN Network, formerly known as Hersam Acorn Newspapers, is the exclusive FCIAC broadcast partner through the spring of 2018. HAN Network’s broadcasting division replaced HANRadio.com with a new focus on live video streams of high school athletics along with the Network’s news and lifestyle programming.
Along with Connecticut high school sports contests, HAN broadcasts a daily news program, Coffee Break, focusing on southwestern Connecticut at 11 a.m. and a sports talk show, Nutmeg Sports, Monday-Wednesday. You can watch all the shows at HAN.Network or on demand at live.HAN.Network/han-on-demand/.
