Connecticut Sports Talk, May 2

The big national showdown in high school boys lacrosse between Darien and New Canaan happened on Saturday, and that’s where Rob and Don open the show.

The Blue Wave stepped out to a 2-0 lead and never looked back, winning 10-7 before a big crowd at Darien High School. The Wave proved that they are clearly the better team right now, though there is a solid chance that they will meet the Rams again in the FCIAC playoffs.

Rob and Don also lined up a chat with Tyler Matakevich, a Stratford resident who played high school football at St. Joseph in Trumbull, before moving onto Temple University. In fact, Tyler has been on Nutmeg Sports before.

Then he got drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. Suddenly his schedule got a little more chaotic, so he will join the guys as soon as possible. Still, Rob and Don discussed his background and projections for the award-winning linebacker.

Also on the Monday show is some baseball and softball chat as May begins and the playoff race intensifies. The end of the spring season is only a few weeks away.
