Boys volleyball: Shelton blanks Newtown

Shelton High’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-17) win over visiting Newtown on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Gaels improved to 6-9 and need two wins in their final four contests to qualify for the state tournament.

Jimmy Hunter had nine digs, five kills and two aces. Patrick Devaney had eight kills and nine digs. Matt Wojslaw compiled nine kills, five digs and two blocks. Jarrett McCurdy contributed nine kills, four aces and four digs. Tyler Nolan added 25 assists to go along with three digs.

For Newtown, Jake Lapp had two aces, nine kills, two blocks and nine assists. Silas Decker added four kills and Robert Katrinak had four kills and four blocks.

Newtown fell to 1-14.
