Donations to Bridgeport Rescue Mission by May 31 will be matched

Bridgeport Rescue Mission Executive Director Terry Wilcox has announced four generous Mission partners have offered funding for a “Matching Challenge.” Collectively these anonymous donors have contributed a total of $125,000 and challenged other friends of the Mission to donate an additional $125,000 by May 31.

“This campaign offers Mission partners a special opportunity to make their financial donations go twice as far during the month of May,” Wilcox explained. “For example, a gift of $50 to the Mission will double to $100 because of the matching funds. This Matching Challenge could potentially bring in $250,000 to support our outreach to the homeless and poor here in coastal Fairfield County, empowering them to become stable and independent members of our community.”

We see time and again how people who receive our assistance — made possible by your gifts —find joy in “giving back” through the Mission or “paying it forward” into the community. Or they eagerly take part in Mission activities that allow them to feed hungry people, sometimes from our Mobile Kitchens, or to offer them coats and clothing at our events.

When residents of our long-term programs graduate – with jobs, homes and a sense of purpose – often they’re excited to give as they can of their treasure, time and talents to help people who are struggling as they once were.

“Right now at the Mission, one equals two because of the Matching Challenge. But gifts will double only until May 31. We’d be so grateful if all of our friends and partners would make a generous contribution at this time, as their gift will be doubled and those in our care will be doubly blessed,” Wilcox said. He invites anyone who would like to make a gift to donate at BridgeportRescueMission.org or send a contribution to P.O. Box 9057, Bridgeport, CT 06601.
