Baseball coverage

We kick off our coverage with a big baseball rematch in Darien on Friday, May 20, at 4 p.m. The top-seeded Blue Wave lost just three FCIAC games during the regular season — one to Danbury, which grabbed the eighth and final seed in the baseball playoffs. We’ll be in Darien to provide live coverage of the Blue Wave and Hatters’ quarterfinal matchup.

To help you prepare for that game, you can rewatch the Darien-Danbury game HAN Network covered live earlier this season in Danbury at this link. Danbury needed to beat Staples in the final game of the season on Wednesday to reach the playoffs. You can rewatch HAN Network coverage of that game at this link.

Here are all the FCIAC baseball matchups (with overall and FCIAC records in parenthesis), on Friday, May 20 (visit FCIAC.net for details):

No. 8 Danbury (11-8, 9-7) at No. 1 Darien (17-3, 13-3)
No. 7 Warde (14-6, 10-6) at No. 2 Greenwich (12-7, 11-5)
No. 6 St. Joseph (12-8, 10-6) at No. 3 Trumbull (13-6, 11-5)

Boys lacrosse

On Saturday, HAN Network turns its attention to boys lacrosse, which we’ll also have live coverage of all three playoff rounds, starting with No. 6 Wilton at No. 3 New Canaan. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m.

While New Canaan got off to a hot start this season, including a big win over Wilton back on April 12, the Rams have struggled down the stretch. The Rams started off 9-0 but won just four of its final seven games, including losing its last two games of the season. Wilton has had the opposite end to its season, winning eight of its last nine games. The only loss was to No. 2 Ridgefield in overtime.

Here are all the FCIAC boys lacrosse matchups (with overall and FCIAC records in parenthesis) on Saturday, May 21 (visit FCIAC.net for details):

No. 8 St. Joseph (8-8, 6-5) at No. 1 Darien (16-0, 11-0)
No. 5 Greenwich (9-6, 9-2) at No. 4 Staples (14-2, 9-2)
No. 6 Wilton (12-4, 8-3) at No. 3 New Canaan (13-3, 9-2)

The eight lacrosse playoff teams were determined using a power point system. Teams are awarded 100 points for each official league victory, and 10 bonus points for every league win that opponent has.

While the power point system was used to determine qualifiers, it was not used to determine final seedings.

Once the top eight teams were established, the eight coaches of those teams voted on the seedings. Teams were ranked one through seven, with one best being and seven being worst. Coaches could not include their own team in their ranking.

Darien had the lowest point total and was seeded first, Ridgefield was second lowest and was seeded and second, and so on to St. Joseph in eighth place.
