Two dead following Route 8 crash

Police are investigating a wrong-way crash that left two people dead on Route 8 early Thursday morning.

Just after 1 a.m, Police responded to a crash on Route 8 near exit 13 involving two vehicles. Police reported that Fernando J. Moreno-Rivas, 30, of Stratford, and Kelly M. Wootten, 29, of Seymour, crashed and were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a statement from State Police, Wootten was going north on the southbound side of the road when she collided with Moreno-Rivas’ vehicle.

State police shut down the southbound side of Route 8 between the exits 15 and 13 following the accident and are continuing their investigation.

An accident reconstruction team is working on determining the cause of the crash.

This accident brings the death toll caused by car accidents in Shelton to five over the past two weeks.

Shelton Police are also continuing to investigate the crash on River Road from last week that killed Rosemarie Dwyer, 69, of Shelton.
