Now, at the start of a new year, Bensen has moved to a new location on Bridgeport Avenue, and has expanded with the creation of Kim’s Light Café, which she says provides guilt-free dining for breakfast lunch and dinner.
Bensen’s Weight Loss Center and cafe has opened at 405 Bridgeport Avenue, in a 8,000 square foot space that was once the Crabtree Cadillac dealership.
“Our original space was knocked down,” Bensen said. “But it turned out for the best. This is an amazing space and it had the perfect amount of room for a cafe.”
The Kim Bensen Weight Loss Center moved with Hard Kore Fitness, which is located right next door.
“As unique as we are to weight loss, they are to fitness,” Bensen said of Hard Kore Fitness.
The cafe is a dream come true for Bensen, who herself lost 212 pounds, inspiring her to help others.
“When you go out to eat, you want to feel treated,” Bensen said.
Ingredients are carefully measured and customers can see how many calories are in their dish. Dishes are also converted into Weight Watcher points and Xchanges.
“I always say I still have 350-pound taste buds,”Bensen said. “This is not about diet, it’s about lifestyle.”
The cafe chef uses fresh ingredients and innovative recipes to cut back on calories, Bensen said, but not taste.
“Some diet food is pre-packaged and that cuts so much flavor,” she said.
The cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Offerings include the build-your-own pizza, panini or wrap station and healthier versions of quesadillas, hot dog and desserts and bakery items.
The space next door to the cafe is used for weekly meetings.
“Our clients have lost hundreds of pounds,” Bensen said.
Members can join the online community or come in person for meetings and consultations with staff. Online membership is $14.95 a month and premium membership is $24.95 a month, allowing members unlimited consultations and one-on-ones with Bensen.
The larger space also allows for Zumba classes three times a week and a healthy food store.
“We have our grocery store in the back,” Bensen said. “Some of the things we carry you can only get online and you have to buy in bulk. We make it easy to shop light and healthy.”
The center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meetings are scheduled throughout the week, in the morning and evening.
This week the center is hosting an open house, this week that continues Friday and Saturday, Jan. 5. The open house will include cooking demonstrations, samples, Zumba and more.
The center can be reached at 203-513-8722 or by visiting kimbensen.com.
