Baseball: McNamara to receive Diamond Club award

The Southern Connecticut Diamond Club, Inc. will honor 30 area high school baseball players at its annual awards banquet on Sunday, June 12, at Monticello’s Restaurant in Meriden.

Each player will be presented with the John “Whitey” Piurek “There’s No ‘I’ In Team” Award. Named for the longtime West Haven High coach, the honor is awarded to the member of each team who gives most unselfishly to his program.

Craig NcNamara of Shelton High will receive one of the awards.

In addition to the Piurek awards, the club will present the Samuel Burrell Jr. Coach of the Year award to Jeff Farrell of Wilbur Cross High School. Also, the George Klivak Team of the Year will be presented to Hamden High School. Both awards are voted on by the area coaches and members of the SCDC.
