Superintendent of Shelton Schools Dr. Chris Clouet said after reviewing a competitive list of candidates, the Board of Ed has decided that Dr. James Zavodjancik was the best candidate for the principal position at Booth Hill Elementary School in the upcoming school year.
Beginning with a total of four prospects for the position, two internal candidates moved on to the final selection process in which Dr. Clouet and the Board Chairman Mark Holden ultimately chose Dr. Zavodjancik.
The Board unanimously supported their recommendation.
Dr. Zavodjancik, or Dr. Z , will replace John Scalice, who held the position for the 2015-2016 school year, but is leaving to pursue other opportunities, according to Holden.
He will technically begin July 1, but there will be time after school lets out where he is able to do transition work before beginning full-time, according to Dr. Clouet.
“There will also be a kind of cookie and coffee for parents and staff so he can get familiar and mingle with folks,” said Dr. Clouet.
A date for the meet and greet hasn’t been set, but Dr. Zavodjancik said he’s excited to be a part of a thriving education system and leadership team.
“I would like to have an impact on a variety of different areas,” said Dr. Zavodjancik. “Obviously I want to continue the hard work that the staff over at Booth Hill have already been building now as far as academic achievements, but also to be able to learn from them and have them learn from me.”
Prior to the position in Booth Hill, Dr. Zavodjancik was a Housemaster at Shelton High, a District Curriculum Coordinator in Milford, an assistant principal in Milford, and a foreign language teacher in Milford.
When he’s not working in the schools, Dr. Z said he enjoys long-distance bike rides, working in the garden at his home and spending time with his family.
“I’m excited about the opportunity and to be able to contribute to Shelton in a leadership capacity and I cannot wait to meet the staff to see all of the great things staff are already working on,” said Dr. Zavodjancik.
