From Jane Austen to pirates in Milford

HAN Arts & Leisure with Sally Sanders, Steve Coulter and the “Reel Dad,” Mark Schumann, take a look at movies, the arts and other events going on in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Westchester County, New York — and the surrounding area. Watch this week’s episode below:

While Steve is away, Kate Czaplinski joins Sally to talk about costume dramas. The Reel Dad reviewed “Love and Friendship” this week and Sally and Kate discuss their favorite costume movies.

Later, two swashbuckling guests join Sally to promote Milford’s annual Pirates Day in downtown Milford, this Sunday, June 12, 2016.

This is a free family-friendly event. Participants can join Cap’n Kidd and his crew as they sail into Milford Harbor at Lisman’s Landing aboard the pirate ship Oz, are greeted by Mayor Benjamin G. Blake, and “take over” downtown Milford.

The Cap’n Kidd Treasure Hunt Pirates Day is presented by the Downtown Milford Business Association and sponsored in part by 7 Seas Restaurant. Participants can come dressed as a pirate and be part of the scavenger hunt.

Participants can pick up a free downtown treasure map, strand of pirate beads, and a booty bag starting at 11:30 a.m. at Lisman Landing (or by the gazebo), then follow their own path to Treasure Stop Shops. Those who solve each ‘clue,’ and get all locations stamped, will qualify for a chance to win a Pirate’s Chest of Treasures — one for adults; one for children.

People may visit participating businesses from June 6-10 and enter to win a trip aboard the Pirate Ship Oz on June 12. Winners will be notified on June 10 and some restrictions apply.

Finally, Sally gives a rundown of this weekend’s events.
