A Plus Exterior broke a three-game Valley Independent Softball League losing streak by toppling Rex Marine Center/Oxford Pizza Palace twice.
A six-run third inning fired A Plus onto a 10-6 win in the opener.
After the long-time rivals traded a pair of second-inning runs, A Plus took charge of the game with a third-frame spree. It increased the gap to 10-2 with a pair in the fourth before Rex/Oxford plated the game’s final four runs.
Juan Maldonado had two hits and three RBIs to lead the victors. Also with a pair of hits were Paul Veilleux, Santos Flores, Corey Foster and Joe Ezzo.
John Fair’s three base hits topped the Rex/Oxford offensive stats. Matt Barr, Sean Mayne, Greg Knobloch and Wayne Britto added two each.
Fred Davila earned the pitching win over John Sinchak.
Despite building a big lead and staying ahead almost the entire game, A Plus had to rally from a late game Rex/Oxford scoring outburst to escape with a 14-12 win in the nightcap.
Four runs in each of the first and second innings gave A Plus an early 8-1 cushion.
It still held a comfortable 10-4 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, when Rex/Oxford sent 13 men to the plate to score eight times and go on top, 12-10.
A Plus was not to be denied however, coming up with four of its own in the top of the seventh — highlighted by Anson Mero’s bases-loaded triple. A Plus zeroed Rex/Oxford in the bottom of the frame to lock up the win.
Josh Wifall and Alex Montero were the victor’s leading hitters with three hits apiece. Brian Veilleux, Foster, Ezzo, Flores and Davila, who again was winning pitcher, added a pair of hits each.
For Rex/Oxford, Fair, Steve Dobi, Kevin Jones. Joe Peccerillo, Dave Gallo and Sinchak, who took the pitching loss, all garnered two hits apiece.
Buzz & Hank’s Potato Factory dominated Militia in both ends of their doubleheader, winning 18-0 in the opener before completing the sweep with a 19-9 win in the nightcap.
Jumping out to a 4-0 lead after one inning and then making it 5-0 after two, the Spudmen put the game out of reach with a seven-run outburst in the third. They tacked on six more the rest of the way to finish off the rout.
Winning pitcher Chuck Osborne led the way at the plate with three hits, including a double while driving in four runs. Brandon Luzinski, D.J. Larkin and Gilbert Fernandez each contributed three hits to the attack.
Buzz & Hank’s continued the offensive onslaught in the nightcap, building an 18-1 lead after three. Militia however found its hitting shoes in the latter portion of the contest and whittled away at the big margin, a margin that proved too big to overcome in the end.
Larkin had four hits, including a double and a triple and drove in four runs, while Burt Posca went 4-for-4 with three doubles to spark the winning offense.
Ryan Osborne and Chuck Osborne, who again twirled the win, garnered three base hits apiece.
Jimmy Hoffman collected three hits while losing pitcher Justin Guillette belted a pair of triples to lead Militia.
