Shelton police: Burglar caught in the act

Earlier break-in at same business still under investigation

Police responding to a burglar alarm in downtown Shelton early Thursday say they caught a man who had broken into a local establishment.

SheltonPoliceLogoFIOfficers who arrived at Bricks and Barley, 441 Howe Ave., around 2:30 a.m. Thursday said they found the rear door kicked in, and cash taken from the office.

Other officers searching the surrounding area said they found 23-year-old Alexis Sanchez of Shelton running from the scene. He was caught after a brief foot chase, police said.

Cash that was taken from the business was found nearby, according to police.

Sanchez was charged with third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, interfering with a police officer, sixth-degree larceny and possession of burglary tools. Bond and court date information were not available.

Shelton police said they are still investigating a similar burglary at Bricks and Barley on June 30.
