The Shelton National 11-12 All-Stars completed their run through the losers’ bracket of the District III baseball tournament with a 6-3 win over Robert A. Cole on Tuesday at the Kudej Complex in Shelton.
With the victory, SNLL advanced to the final against Prospect on Thursday at the Kudej Complex in Shelton at 6 p.m. The if-game is schedule for Friday at the Kudej Complex at 6 if necessary.
National left-hander Joseph Ciccone picked up the victory on the hill, throwing a complete game and striking out five. Connor Friedman paced the offense with four hits, while Nick Dreyer belted a solo home run and added an RBI single.
SNNL never trailed against Robert A. Cole, which plays out of Beacon Falls.
Friedman doubled and scored on an error in the top of the first, before Dreyer doubled the lead with a solo shot in the top of the second.
In the third inning, Beacon Falls pulled back a run. Tyler Reynolds singled up the middle for Cole’s first hit, then scored on Tyler Ciavarella’s RBI single.
Shelton National responded with four runs in the top of the fourth, aided by three infield hits and Dreyer’s RBI single that struck the second-base bag and caromed out into left field.
Friedman singled and scored on a wild pitch, Ciccone helped himself with a run-scoring infield hit and John Riccio punched a two-out, off-speed pitch into the outfield to make it 6-1.
Robert A. Cole scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on an error on Jamie Nadoleone’s grounder for the first run. Ciavarella then made it 6-3 with an RBI fielder’s choice grounder.
Ciccone allowed a one-out infield single in the bottom of the sixth, but rolled a grounder and pop to Ryan Hafele at shortstop to end the game.
Prospect edged Shelton National, 8-7, back on June 30.
